Meet the team.
The Committee.
Our society is powered by a dynamic team of 40 students dedicated to making our events and initiatives a success. At the helm is our Executive Committee, including the President, Vice-President, General Secretary, and Treasurer, who oversee the society’s vision and operations. Supporting them are our seven specialized sub-teams, each bringing unique skills to the table - from organizing career events and securing sponsorships to managing social media, logistics, and more. Meet the Executive Committee
-
Nick Scherer
President
Hi everyone! My name is Nick, and I’m in my third year studying Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at the LSE. Born and raised in Munich, it’s probably no surprise that Oktoberfest is my favourite social event of the year!
I’ve been part of the German Society since day one of my studies and feel honoured to lead the society for the second time. When I’m not dreaming about the German Symposium, you can probably find me at the pub or (mum, if you’re reading this) in the library.
If you have any questions, ideas, or wishes for the Society, don’t hesitate to come talk to me or one of the other three lovely exec members. We’re always happy to hear from you!
-
Valeria Lechner
Vice President
Hi, My name is Valeria Lechner and I am a 3rd year BSc International Relations Student. I was born in Zurich, but grew up in Singapore!
I’ve been a member of the German Society throughout my undergraduate, with a special focus on organising the annual symposium—an event I’m incredibly passionate about. This year, I’m thrilled to be Vice President and continue contributing to the society’s success.
If you have any questions about the Symposium, the German Society, or life at LSE, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
-
Max Bussfeld
General Secretary
Hey! I’m Max and I‘m currently in my final year studying International Relations & History at LSE. I‘m originally from Cologne but grew up in Basel, Switzerland.
Last year, I was part of German Society‘s Communications Team, and I’m excited to now co-lead the society, helping to make this year truly memorable! In my free time I like to play the piano and football.
Feel free to reach out to me if you have any general questions regarding the Society’s external communication, and press relations!
-
Josh de Buhr
Treasurer
Moin, my name is Josh, hailing from Hamburg but supporting Schalke. Mondays hit hard when you spend the weekend watching Schalke redefine disappointment.
Despite that, I’m a 2nd-year politics student and treasurer of the German Society, managing communication with our partners and acquiring new sponsors to finance the society’s activities. I’m also involved in organising the German Symposium and am always happy to lend a hand. Don’t hesitate to reach out—or find me at the pub counter, ordering the next round!
Next year’s goal: Organising a German Society Carol Team and hosting pres at 6am.
We get it done.
